Testing wordpress before committing to use as a webhost

As a complete beginner to produce a web site I want to be able to build a site before I commit to launching it. How do I do this without transferring my domain name away from it’s present domain issuer?

You can use the free .wordpress.com subdomain while you’re working on the site and only transfer your custom domain once you’re ready.
