Text before a photo

  I have a photo placed on the left margin at the beginning of a page. It is one of six paragraphs with a photo beside each. I want to place introductory text before the first photo. Every time I try, the text go to the right of the photo instead of on the left margin above the first photo. How can I get the new text to be aligned left and before the first photo?
