text blocks are getting squeezed

    Help! Check out the about us page on my site to see an example of what I mean, the text blocks are uncomfortably thin on the page. I want it to spread through the width of the site, no matter what device is being used (computer, tablet, or mobile)

    Hi there,

    Are you speaking of the width of the content area?

    In most themes text content is typically limited to a width of between 50 and 75 characters per line.

    This is based on typography research that shows the eye is most comfortably able to read lines of text that are within that range – any wider and eyes get tired faster, as they have to move more while reading, and it becomes easier to lose your place when moving from one line to the next. So most themes set a fixed width for text content, even while other content on the site can be wider.

    On our Pro plan you can use custom CSS code to make the content area wider, but keep in mind a change like this will likely have an impact on the readability of your content.

    I wish I could put a picture in the response box but it looks awful – is this really the default setting? here is how it is formatted, no matter how large my window is:

    “Water’s Edge Environmental, LLC
    located in ~blah blah blah~, is an
    environmental consulting and
    professional planning firm specializing
    in land use and land management.”

    Why would it be so small? there is like 5 inches of empty space on either side of the about us description? this seems very odd.

    we are not really worried about the readability of our content. we just need a place to describe ourselves and list our services, but this looks like a 5th grader made it.

    I see what you are saying The text fields are unusually narrow. You currently have the Edin theme activated for your site. Were you wanting to set up the front page similar to Edin’s demo?

    If so, you can follow the steps on the Theme’s page in order to set up the front page template:
