Text changes when link inserted with visual mode?

I had no problems with my first link on the News page of my blog. Today I tried to do another, and now when in Visual mode, the highlighted text for the link that I want to create changes to the actual link instead of remaining as the text. I have tried everything I can think of. Please advise, thanks.

Hi, thanks for the reply. On the News page, the first article titled NEWS: Top Cow…I do not know HTML, but by following a tutorial I got the link to work that way, as you can now see, but the Visual mode still replaces the highlighted text with the actual link, instead of making the highlighted text the link. Any help appreciated. AC

And finally using the chain icon to make the link?
If so, that is somewhat unusual.
It can be a bit difficult in the visual editor to pick up a left-aligned image plus text. Try selecting just the picture, then hold down your SHIFT key to select the text. Then use the chain icon to make the link.
But I couldn’t reproduce the problem you are describing, ie the text becoming the link, so perhaps post something with the “mistake” on it?
I would suggest making a link to the picture (using the image editor). Then make another link by highlighting the text and using the chain icon. Two links, but they can both go to the same place.

Thanks for the reply, but I’m not having problems with the picture, or anything on the Front Page. The problem is with the visual editor when I try to highlight text and make it a link. The text disapears and is replaced with the link from the search bar that I copied and pasted into the link popup box and then insert.

It works again, but i didn’t do anything. Thanks for the advice. If it does it again I’ll let you know. AC
