  Can someone point me towards changing the text color…

  Which text color? You are using standard text, h1, h2, h3, h4. All of it? Only some of it?

  Add the following to your custom CSS and then change the #FF0000 or hex color code you wish.

  #content h1, #content h2, #content h3, #content h4, #content h5, #content h6, #content p {
  color: #FF0000;
  }

  The brackets enclose the declarations for the preceeding class and/or ID selectors. It is how things are set up so that the browser knows what is what and what to apply the different sets of declarations to.
