text colour

There used to be some way to change colours, I think using the downward ‘arrow’ on the classic editor. Now this possibility doesn’t appear, and nor does the classic editor (and regardless of what it says in the help listing) when I open the blocks + sign.

I’ve been up and down the Help listings all morning and am completely defeated.

I’m amazed at something as basic as selecting a different colour to highlight a word is no longer available – or is simply so hard to find that I’m now considering looking for a different website provider; technology was supposed to make things easier, save us time.

Thanks for the early versions of WordPress, which were functional (in the same way Microsoft Word 5.1 was once upon a time; and then the useful features were over-complicated there as well).

When you are editing a post, you can change the text colour and background text colours by choosing the Color/Background option on the right side of the page.

Just highlight the text you want to change. This works with Headers, Paragraphs, and Links, Buttons, and maybe more stuff.

Since you mentioned wanting to be able to change the color of specific bits of text, I wanted to also add that you can use the highlighter function in the Paragraph block as well. This is a great way to highlight specific words within a larger group of text, rather than changing the color of the entire paragraph as <term-user value=”@parkdanil” class=”spf-tag”>@parkdanil</term-user> correctly pointed out above.

    Thanks!

    Thank-you both.

The first option didn’t work to highlight one word, as it highlighted the whole paragraph rather than the single word I had marked.

The second idea did provide a solution, but why WordPress removed the word “Colour” from the list under the downward-pointing arrow is beyond me, as it is the obvious instruction, whereas the word “Highlight” suggests the kind of effect brought about with a highlighter pen, i.e. it doesn’t change the colour of the text but of the background to the text.

Still, in today’s world, we seem to seek change and the novel, even if the old was more logical or worked better. Too many employees with not enough to do, perhaps.

Thanks again both of you. (And I’m sure I’ll forget this non-intuitive solution the next time I come to use to modify my webpage.)
