Text Editor Annoyance
-
I’ve been having trouble with something lately, how come everytime i try and use enter to leave spaces between paragraphs the editor shows them as existing when i originally write it but then when it posts it changes it so there’s no spacing between paragraphs?
-
that’s because you’re using the rich text editor. if you turn it off it wouldn’t mess with your spacings, but you have to insert your own html
-
You’ll have better control over your code as well using the normal editor instead of the rich text one.
-
is there an easier fix for this on the way? it seems like a pretty poor editor right now.
Not bashing you guys, love wordpress, but i hate when it doesn’t love me back
-
why don’t you give it a shot, turning off the rich editor? i’m not great at html but i now prefer using it cos i notice the write post page loads faster without the rich text editor and thr r loads of sites that teach u html in layman’s terms… that’s about the easiest fix right now…

The rich text editor is actually a program called TinyMCE and is used as an editor for many Open Source projects. (ie PHPNuke, Drupal, phpBB as a plugin, etc.) It gets used a lot because it’s fairly easy to work into another setup, it’s fairly quick to load even over dial up, and it’s interface is one a lot of people find easy to use. It pretty much the best and most supported of what’s out there.
See their main site here.
If you haven’t guessed by now, I can’t stand the thing. I’m glad it’s out there and people swear by the thing but it runs about 10-15% of our support tickets with my hosting and i would say about 20-25% over here. (ie the dropped sidebar, different fonts, weird characters, additional and missing lines, etc.)
I doubt Matt and staff have actually worked on the code for it except for submitting bug reports.

Is there a quick fix for the darn thing automatically removing spaces input by me? It’s really annoying for this thing to work so well and have such a simple issue of removing the spaces input by the user.

I posted this in response to your other thread. You may have missed it:
Joe, you’re at the wrong site. You need to be over at http://wordpress.org if you’re installing your own software elsewhere. We don’t do that here. wp.org is for the software.
