Text editor overwriting and deleting

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m having trouble with the text editing window in visual mode. For some reason, when I try to edit or insert a word it is OVERWRITING previous words as I type, essentially deleting words as I type. I’m not able to type text normally as I am right now, writing this note to you. Any thoughts? Is there an “overwriting” key or button that I’ve turned on by accident? Can you look at my draft article titled “poster article” and figure out what’s going on? Thanks.

  • Hi there. There’s no overwrite button in the post editor, no. Are you using the New Post button in the Reader or the post editor in the dashboard at Posts ->Add New? The New Post button can get quirky at times, so if you’re using that one, try the other one.

You can also try clearing your browser cache and cookies and check whether this problem occurs if you use a different browser. http://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/

Let us know if any of that works for you (or if it doesn’t).

  • Hi there,

Are you using an attached keyboard to your desktop computer as you were typing? Or are you on a laptop? Can you also try to see if the overwriting happens while visiting other websites or while using other software? Let me know what you find out. Thanks!

I’m using a plugged in via USB keyboard as I type this with no problem. It’s only on the post editor page where it occurs. I’ve just uploaded and changed my browser. I’ll test it with my new browser and see what happens now.

  • Thanks for clarifying! Can you check to see if clearing your browser cache helps? Let me know what happens in your other tests as well.
