Text gone haywire?
-
Hey guys,
For some reason all of the text in my individual blog posts has turned from a normal looking black font to a very light blue, which is barely readable. The same has happened to some of the text part of the widgets in the sidebar….Not sure what happened as it was working/looking perfectly fine yesterday. Any suggestions?
Cheers

You are copying and pasting from Word, and that will completely and surely kill your blog. Word doesn’t speak web.
If you are going to use Word, you have to use the “paste from Word icon or you will constantly be fighting this issue.

Thanks for that – just a few more things…how come it worked up until yesterday? And why is it that the sidebar text has also changed?

It worked until yesterday because the errors are cumulative, till the point where WP can’t cope with the pile of errors anymore, and your blog goes KAPOW.
And the sidebar text changed for the same reason.

When you have messed up code in a post, it can effect the entire blog, and Word is infamous for screwing up blogs. And as far as it “working” before now, I see all kinds of code issues in a lot of your posts, they just didn’t cause the blog to break.
MS Word is a word processor designed for print media. It isn’t an HTML editor.
I’ve personally have spent countless hours here in the forums trying to help bloggers that have been pasting from Word, “un-break” their blogs. I’ve seen blogs where I have done W3C XHTML validations where there have been 500 errors on the main page of a blog, and more than half of those due to pasting from Word.
If you want the additional control that Word was giving you over formatting, and you are on Windows, download and install the free Windows Live Writer blog client, which is very similar to Word and gives you virtually all of the same formatting control, but it produces clean HTML code and will upload it directly to your blog – no copy and paste required. It also saves the posts that you create in it on your computer hard drive so you always have a copy incase something should go wrong: http://windowslivewriter.spaces.live.com/ . There is also the BlogDesk blog client, which is also a free download, and I have several friends that use it and would not use anything else: http://www.blogdesk.org/en/index.htm .
If you are on Mac, the best two blog clients are not free, but they are reasonably priced. Ecto at $20USD: http://illuminex.com/ecto/ and Mars Edit a $29.95USD: http://www.red-sweater.com/marsedit/ .
