Text Keeps Getting Deleted As I Type

Even if you fix the “glitch” that’s making it happen more often, it would still be super-helpful if shortcuts could be completely disabled for users who don’t want them on.
As it happens, the shortcut is the glitch! :) If you take a look at our keyboard shortcuts, you’ll notice that the shortcut to delete a block is Shift+Alt+Z on a PC.
The good news is, we’ve identified the cause and will soon fix it. I appreciate you all reporting the problem! It is definitely an annoying experience we don’t want you to have.

No way! This is incredible news– I thought for sure since the Keyboard shortcuts panel itself reads “⇧Backspace” for “Remove the selected block(s)” currently, that meant it was what was intended… it’ll be total bliss once it’s fixed to Shift+Alt+Z on PC/Control+Option+Z on Mac like written on this other documentation!

Yup, this was intended for a brief period (without getting into too much nitty-gritty details, it was a Gutenberg decision). It’s since been reverted, meaning the keyboard shortcut will be back to Shift+Alt+Z. We’re still in the process of getting that updated, but due to some technical reasons, it’s taking a bit longer than usual.

So glad to find this conversation I thought I was going crazy. I’m hitting shift-backspace all the time by accident and it is incredibly annoying. When was this feature added anyway? I never used to have this problem.

aisijib can you just disable short cuts. I’m really tired of hitting backspace while on mobile device and it just ripping out everything I just wrote.

💡 This feature was actually recommended recently (to disable all shortcuts):

However, a pull request was closed (https://github.com/WordPress/gutenberg/pull/69353) because the reviewers agreed that it should be better to implement selective shortcut disabling, so it’s still open. ⏳

@dragstor so disabling a feature rather than forcing it is not the solution. 😂. Basically the decades long running joke of how unfriendly WordPress editing is actually what they intended.
They prefer your users to hate the environment rather than actually doing what they ask for. at least when the environment is 💩 we talk about it huh 😂
