Text not wrapping around image

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I’m trying to wrap the main body of my text around an image, placed at the beginning of the article.

I have aligned the image to the left, and in the editor it wraps around fine – but when in preview mode, or uploaded, it just sits at the bottom of the picture.

    Here’s a link to the article: https://andrewkmessios.wordpress.com/2016/10/27/review-reality-is-not-what-it-seems-the-journey-to-quantum-gravity-carlo-rovelli/

    And the code:

    [caption id="attachment_221" align="alignleft" width="309"]<img class=”alignnone wp-image-221″ src=”https://andrewkmessios.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/realityisnotwhatitseemscover.png” alt=”Reality Is Not What It Seems The Journey To Quantum Gravity Carlo Rovelli Cover” width=”309″ height=”494″ /> Allen Page – Penguin Books – 272 pages – £16.99[/caption]

Any help will be repaid in a follow ;) Thanks

(Also, I’m using the ‘Editor’ theme)

    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,

Try pasting this into the top of the page:

    [caption id="attachment_221" align="alignleft" width="309"]<img class="wp-image-221" src="https://andrewkmessios.files.wordpress.com/2016/10/realityisnotwhatitseemscover.png?w=309&h=494" alt="Reality Is Not What It Seems The Journey To Quantum Gravity Carlo Rovelli Cover" width="309" height="494" /> Allen Page – Penguin Books – 272 pages – £16.99[/caption]

<strong>Puzzles in contemporary physics are forcing us to think about reality in strange new ways, finds <span style="color: #993366;"><em>Andrew Messios</em></span></strong>

IT HAS BEEN 100 years since the foundations of modern physics were laid by Albert Einstein. In three papers submitted to the Annalen der Physik, he formulated the theories of special relativity, general relativity, and an explanation of the photo-electric effect, which would develop fully into quantum mechanics over the next half a century.
Since then, these theories have been tidied and expanded, but never fully integrated. This isn’t a problem in most circumstances: the scales at which general relativity works best is where quantum effects are too small to be relevant, and vice versa. However, in some exotic locations in our universe (such as inside of black holes), the theories do collide – and frustratingly, seem to contradict each other.
Quantum Gravity is one proposed solution to the puzzle, and Carlo Rovelli has dedicated his life to pursuing it. He is one of the founders of loop quantum gravity theory, and has been working in the field for 25 years.
The author has already had an international bestseller, Seven Brief Lessons on Physics, translated into 41 languages. His new work was written beforehand, but he felt that it is only now that the subject was at a mature enough stage to be popularised in a book.

Note that I’ve remove all of the h4 tags. I think they might be preventing the alignment settings to work normally on your page. If that works then add the remainder of the text, minus the h4 tags.

    Correction:
Wherever I said “page” in my previous post, I was referring to your “post.”

Correction 2 (ordinarily, my grammar is better):

Note that I’ve removed all of the h4 tags. I think they might be preventing alignment settings from working normally on your page.

Thanks musicdoc1, you’ve solved it – it was the h4 tags. I set everything to ‘paragraph’, and the text wrapped perfectly.

It’s a shame because I prefer the h4 font and styling. It also means the sub-head has to be in the same style, whereas I’d prefer to have it in a larger font (in <h3>). Is this the sort of thing I just have to accept in wordpress?

    Anyway, thanks for the help

    You’re welcome.

I don’t know. I’ve nearly always avoided H tags due to the spacing and other problems it causes. There might be ways of getting around such effects with CSS customization. If you’re interested in that possibility, I’d suggest you either submit a request to the CSS Customization forum, or add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar of this topic to call for staff attention.
