text over pictures

    hi folks

I like themes with full size pictures that go right across in the background.

problem is, I want to sell stuff on the site and you cannot read the text when it’s over a picture. I tried changing the colour to no avail.

    suggestions?

    thanks.

You can change text color and shade in efforts to make it stand out better against a chosen background, but in my tests I found that background images in which the shade varies more than a little throughout the image inevitably cause intermittently lowered visibility of text.

Light text works against dark backgrounds, and dark text against light backgrounds. So what kind of text works against an alternating light and dark background? I didn’t find any, and eventually settled for a nearly solid background color, with some texture, with borderline strips of a different but compatible color.

thanks for your response. This is the problem exactly.. and since the picture varies from dark to light, it’s near impossible to change the color of the text to contrast the background.

Putting white boxes on top of the background would look hokey too I think.

    You’re welcome, martial3231.

…it’s near impossible to change the color of the text to contrast the background.

Believe me, I tried. I would sometimes change some of the text in a post to a different color or shade. But adding another post would destroy the affect, resulting in wasted effort. This kind of manipulation, however, could be permanently applied to a static page, or a sticky post.

Putting white boxes on top of the background would look hokey too I think.

I tried that, too. on a test website. I strategically added white boxes to a header image where the site title and taglines would appear. I took a few attempts to get the fit right. Looked alright. It wouldn’t have to be a white box. It could be a dark-colored box, with light text in it.

Being able to change the text color of a site tile may be theme dependent now. I’ve used the Koi theme for years on my primary site, and with Koi I used to be able to change the text color of my site title. I believe this modfication was accomplished on the custom header page. That page doesn’t exist anymore, having been incorporated into the Customize page. However, I’ve been unable to find a means of changing site title and tagline text color at Customize with the Koi theme activated.

    I called Godaddy. 3 techs…

Is it a WordPress.org site. If so, you’re in the wrong forum. The WordPress.org support forums are here: https://wordpress.org/support/.

how is this the worng forum when it says “WordPress.com Forums » Support” ?

my site is wordpress but it’s activated through godaddy, hosted on my hosting.

.. then I made the mistake of going direct to wordpress. I see they host sites there too right?

my site is wordpress but it’s activated through godaddy, hosted on my hosting.

WordPress.com sites are fully hosted by WordPress.com. With WordPress.com, there’s no activation by GoDaddy, no choosing of a host, no GoDaddy support. See the WordPress.com and WordPress.org support page for a comparison of the two “flavors” of WordPress.
