Text shown after having sent off message using contact form

    Hello,

in my contact form I included a checkbox. If a user clicks it, it means that he/she would like to stay informed about my activities (talks, workshops and so on). If a user clicks the checkbox, he will see the full sentence followed by a “yes” (“: ja”.), when he/she has sent off his/her message. This makes sense.

But when a user does not click the checkbox, he/she will see the full statement in his/her sent off message without the statement “no” (“: nein”). This might misleadingly lead people to believe that they will get informed about activities of mine, though they did not check that box.

Is it possible to show a “: nein”, if a user did not check that box, or even better, simply leave out that complete statement?

Here is what it looks like after having sent off the message, when you checked the box:
    Nachricht wurde gesendet (Zurück)
    Name: Ansgar Gerstner
E-Mail: (email visible only to moderators and staff)
    Nachricht: test
Ich bin einverstanden, per E-Mail über Vorträge, Seminare, Veröffentlichungen von Ansgar Gerstner auf dem Laufenden gehalten zu werden. : Ja

Here is what it looks like after you have sent off the message, when you did not check the box:
    Nachricht wurde gesendet (Zurück)
    Name: Ansgar Gerstner
E-Mail: (email visible only to moderators and staff)
    Nachricht: test
Ich bin einverstanden, per E-Mail über Vorträge, Seminare, Veröffentlichungen von Ansgar Gerstner auf dem Laufenden gehalten zu werden. :

    Best wishes,
    Ansgar

    Hi Ansgar,

I see what you mean. I created a form myself with the checkbox and that is certainly confusing! I tried to mess around with the HTML form code a bit but with no success. It would seem that the code would need to be changed for how the e-mail itself is generated. I don’t know if that’s possible or not.

You may consider using a radio button with options “Yes” and “No” which will appear in the form.

Or writing the section to say something like, “Please do not send me updates” or “I would like to opt out of occasional e-mail notifications.”

Hopefully someone else can shed more light on this for you.

    Jason

    1. autofilled contact form and comment information
There will be auto-filled information in a contact form or a comment box but your information is visible to you when you are logged in and have not cleared your browser cache and cookies. No one else can see it. Log out, clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies and then visit the site without logging in to prove this to yourself.

When someone makes a comment on your blog, unless they have cleared their cookies, WordPress.com will recognize them and complete the details for them. No one else will be able to view those details in comment boxes or in contact forms. The next person who comments will see blank fields. Commenters will not see each others details.

    2. Admin [edit] link
There is an Admin link on posts and pages that only you as Admin and any Editors you have created can see when you are logged in. It’s for your convenience and your visitors cannot see it and use it. You cannot remove it as it’s coded into the theme templates and we cannot edit templates or themes.

I don’t think that what I posted above addresses your question so please be patient while waiting for another Volunteer or Staff to help you.

    Hello Jason,

thanks for the suggestion! I tried the radio buttons, but I would actually prefer it to be the way it is done right now, only as described above with the “no” in the message to the person having sent off the message.

    Hello TimeThief,

yes, indeed, are looking for another kind of reply. -:)

Would this have to be done by WordPress staff internally?

    Best,
    Ansgar

Hi Ansgar, a change like that would have to be made by staff. I would suggest posting this in the Ideas Forum. Whether this will be done, and if, when, I cannot say.

Thanks a lot for the suggestion!! I was offline for several days. I will post it in the Ideas Forum, now.

    Best wishes,
    Ansgar
