Text too close to image

I figured out how to wrap text around my images, but the text is way too close…virtually touching the edge of my image. How do I add space between the border of the image, and where the text begins? I tried highlighting the paragraph and using the indent button in the toolbar, but that moved the entire paragraph — including the image.

If you are using the visual editor, click on the picture then click on the Image Icon (the tree). You can put horizontal space and vertical space in there: I use ten pixels of horizontal space. You can also make a solid border for it if you want.

I tried that, but when I enter 10 in the horizontal field and click “update”…my image disappears, and is replaced by 2 tiny grey squares — they almost look like bullets.
(Also…I’ve inadvertently uploaded that photo you see in my avatar…how do I get rid of that??) -
Another idea is to use float instead of align. The example here provides a 10px margin:

Can you provide a link to a post with an image in it? Hard to figure out what’s going on when we can’t see it.

Not sure why adding horizontal or vertical space doesn’t work; it sounds like updating it in the picture icon is breaking the link to where the image is stored. Are you uploading your images directly to WP or linking to them from Flickr? It might be worth trying the opposite, see if it gives a different result.
One cheat around it is before you upload your images, add a white border to them in Paint or somewhere like Phixr. What’ll happen is your background is white, so it’ll blend in – it should make it look like the text is shifted across by 10px or whatever border you add. A few people have had to resort to it. :)

I had no idea Phixr existed, and it was an extremely easy application to use.
