  When adding anything to text widget it just disappears, even after following instructions. Hitting save button also causes the html to disappear. Trying to change visibility to anything causes the text to disappear

  That could mean you are adding a code that the software is stripping out for security reasons. So post the code here between code tags please and we will examine it.
