Text widget doesn’t appear on the blog

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I have a problem with my text widget. Anytime I try to add that on my blog, it doesn’t appear. Whenever I write in this widget (even not a code, just simple text), then press “save changes” and go to the blog, I see nothing! Moreover when I go back to the page where I can add some widgets, I see the sidebar without this text widget I tried to add. The same situation takes place when I refresh the page with widgets to add. It simply disappears from the sidebar.
Please, help me, I’ve been looking around in this forum trying to find the solution, but I didn’t mange to.
And sorry for my english, it’s not my native language (I’m from Poland ;)
    Thanks,
    Bartek

It’s a recent problem – cropped up when they changed the way the widgets screen looks and works. Contact Support.

And please paste the exact URL of your blog when asking questions here, or link your nickname to your blog (as explained in the Sticky 8 Things to Know Before Posting). We usually need that to give a relevant answer.

Ok, so you’re saying the problem is connected with recent changes on wodpress. Ok, I’ll try to contact them but if someone could help, here is the URL of my blog:
    http://bartek90.wordpress.com/

I thought it might be caused by the theme I’ve chosen. Unfortunately, some other widgets also have troubles with appearing :/ Well, if there’s someone who also uses Chaotic Soul theme, tell me if you’re having the same problem like me.

  • Unknown's avatar

Nothing to do with the theme. (And the theme you’ve chosen is one of the most well-designed.)

I am having the same problem. I am trying to put up email subscriptions by using the text widget, but the text widget won’t appear on the blog. It’s the same problem as bartek90. Extremely annoying.

I plan to contact support, but any other help would be great. Thanks. Also any other alternatives for setting up an email subscription.

I haven’t had any problems with the Text widget and if it’s a ‘recent’ problem then I think it might be an erratic one because I’ve only recently began using my WordPress account (just this week actually).

@thenaivestudent: are you using any code in your Text widget?

    @bartek90
: have you tried testing the Text widget with english text? I noticed that your blog is purely in Russian, I was just wondering if that might be part of the problem.

The reason why I’m curious is because I have tried a couple of other themes in my blog (including ChaoticSoul) just to test/replicate the problem that you’re having but it always works in my blog.

    Hi guys,
I have just migrated from Blogger to WordPress.
Am also using the ChaoticSoul Theme.
Am also facing the same problem as threadstarter.
I cant post a CBox code. Cant even link myWebLog code.

    THis is my blog. wwwe.beyond69.wordpress.com

  • Unknown's avatar

No, you can’t use CBox code; it contains code which is not secure enough for use on WordPress.com and it will be stripped out. You cannot use javascript or Flash or similar code here. Many sites offer HTML-only options, so use those codes.

    THanks for the feedback Raincoaster.

This support document explains what code can and cannot be used: http://support.wordpress.com/code/ .

Finally, I asked the support and after my second message to them, they have fixed that. They told me also it is nothing more than bug on my blog. So if someone has the same problem I recommend asking support, it’s the easiest way to solve the problem. Now everything works perfectly ;)

Anyway, one thing. My blog isn’t in Russian, because Russians have completely different letters, written in cyrillic – something like that: Русский Кириллица. And we in Poland use Latin alphabet, identical with yours ;)

I have a wordpress.com account and was very pleased to see the snap shots for my links! Recently, for some links, the snap shot takes a very long time to load, (I never stay long enough to wait it out to see if it does finally come up) and for a few others, I get 404 error, even though the link clicks through correctly.

Is there something I need to do to fix this?

    Thanks.

I guess my previous post wasn’t the most relevant for this forum. I have looked at numerous threads and posts for a couple of questions, without finding what I need.

    My second question:

I installed Twittercounter and Twitterremote on my side bar in textwidgets, using the html code that was provided. All that shows up is a partial box showing where the widgets would go.

Is there something else that I need to do to make these work?

    TIA

The M-shots thing is new, and as such, there is a massive indexing that has to go on, so if they have not yet indexed the site on the link, they have to go out and get it and create the smaller screenshot that you see. That all takes time. When snap-shots first hit here, it was the same thing. Seldom did I hover over a link and have the site come up right away, typically there was a message that they did not have that page cached and would have to go and get it. Sometimes that only took a few minutes, sometimes it took days.

Most likely both of those contain code that is not allowed here due to security concerns such as flash, javascript or iframes.

    Code
