Text widget edits my ad code

    I have been trying to include a google ad to my wordpress blog site.
    According a tutorial the ad code that has been provided by google needs to be included in the text widget.

    However after copying and pasting the code into the text widget, the code is modified upon saving.

    For example: <script async src=”… will be replaced by: <a href=”….
    Also commands such as <script> will be deleted completely rendering the script useless and the script displayed as normal text.

    How do i prevent the text widget from editing my code?
