Text widget HTML issue
-
I’m having troubles with the text widget. Every time i enter any HTML code and then go to save the changes, i get kicked to the holding page of the domain. If i enter just text without any HTML tags then it saves fine. But as soon as HTML tags are used the problem happens. I’m using Firefox if that helps, but i believe the problem to be with how WP, or the setup of WP on my domain is working.
Any clues to why or assistance would be much appreciated.

Please provide a link to your blog, starting with http so we can look at it. Sounds like you might be independently hosted.
Also: paste the code in question here so we can look at it. Put it between backticks, those little marks on the same key as the ~, so it would be backtick, code from text widget, backtick. That makes it display properly.

Oh, right. You ARE independently hosted then. You’re in the wrong forum and need to be over at WordPress.org, as per this thread:

I’m not independently hosted and couldn’t put any html code in my text widget either. I am using IE7
I sure wish I could move the test widget around…. -
IE7 currently isn’t playing nicely with the text widgets. My suggestion at this time is to download and use Firefox until wordpress gets the IE7 widget issue ironed out. After it is fixed, you can then uninstall Firefox if you desire. I’ve suggested this to several others and it has taken care of their widget editing issues.

And remember that not every kind of HTML is going to work here at WP.com. A lot of different types of code get stripped out; the FAQ is the best place for info on that.

I am having the same issue. This was all basic code which was working fine before. I just went to add a copy of the same code I had in there before. I had this issue once before as well.
Though in the new dashboard, I can edit the widget and hit “Change” but there is no “save” button or something to the like on the page.
Tried in both Firefox and Safari.

Here’s what staff said in another thread:

1. put the code and or text into the widget
2. click change and the widget will close
3. scroll down to the bottom of the sidebar widgets display and you will find the “save changes” button. Press that and it will save your changes.I’ve found if you are editing multiple widgets, it is best to click the change, and the “save changes” button after each text widget edit or it may end up not saving the first widget stuff.
