Text Widget Not Accepting Facebook Like Box
-
this is a real inconvenient, I have to say. Facebook today is one of the most important way to farther a blog and trafic, and WP.com holds bake the tides. come on guys let us put like widget here!
-
If it’s very important to you because of business related issues why not look into wp.ORG? That’s what I did for my business websites and…
If it’s this important I think everyone should contact staff, I’m sure they’ll look into and see what they can do. http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/
And try to remember that just because we suggest something today, they are going to need more than 24 hours to see what they can do, I mention that because us bloggers are quite impatient. ;) -
I have exactly the same problem. I wanted to move to Word press from Blogger because every one says it is better, more professional etc. but one of the most important things for a blog – a way of saying you LIKE it which is conveniently attached to facebook isn’t allowed! There must be a way! It’s the ONLY reason I haven’t made the switch because I think it is a really important feature. VERY VERY disappointed with this.
-
I did send a note just now to http://en.support.wordpress.com/contact/ about wanting Facebook Like (not individual post sharing — the capability to join my blog’s Facebook page via a click on my blog),Google Friend/Follower and NetworkedBlogs. I may soon move my blog to .org, because in my content space, these features are very popular. I’ve grown weary of continually seeing these features on Blogger sites when I cannot offer it too. I believe when you have a larger and growing blog readership, it’s a HUGE advantage for readers and new visitors to know that. It’s a big vote for the strength of your blog. Plus those features aren’t just one-time shares as many of the ShareThis and AddThis type features are. I don’t want to use Blogger because I use both WordPress.com and .org for blogs and love WordPress. It’s funny that I run a blog on .org that would NOT do the Facebook, Google, etc. features — so I suppose I should have set my hobby site up on .org in the first place too!

Are you aware of this? It’s a Facebook bug.
Hi everyone,
Facebook has mentioned this:
http://bugs.developers.facebook.net/show_bug.cgi?id=15953We’re investigating the situation.
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/publicize-feature-and-facebook-displaying-image-from-wp-on-fb?replies=27#post-575645Have you sent your feedback into Facebook Staff?

Hi!
I’m glad I found your discussion because I was trying to do this in my new blog.
My blog is also for business and not being able to display who likes it I do agree is a great inconvenience. I will be following closely the debate on this matter in this thread as I can see the discussion is quite recent. I sincerely hope something happens and they do sort it out. -
have you let Facebook staff know that you would like them to sort out the bug? It appears that they do have a thread here > http://bugs.developers.facebook.net/show_bug.cgi?id=15953
-
Hi again,
well, Im not a developper, in fact Im really new to wordpress, so when I open the thread I dont know what to do with it. I dont understand the thread, dont see how its related to this issue, sorry for my lack of understanding :(
Maybe someone with more knowledge should open a thread with facebook about the facepile? I dont know if Im talking non-sense here or not… -
The Facebook like widget will not work on wordpress.com blogs. The software here will strip out the code to preserve security. http://en.support.wordpress.com/code/

Yes, thank you for reposting this timethief, its really kind of you. I did read about this and I believe it hasnt been sorted yet.
I just sent an email to the support people of wordpress.com about this, complaining about it, see what they say. -
I hope you understand that this is a Facebook bug and not a wordpress.com bug. If you are solution orientated they there are other ways to post to Facebook. > http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/01/12/importing-wordpress-com-post-snippets-into-a-facebook-fan-page/

I think I have a solution. As @sanjidas said, Facebook BADGES work using the text widget. If you go to the Facebook badge page (http://www.facebook.com/badges/), you will see a “LIKE Badge.” There is a dropdown menu from which you can select any one of the pages you have “Liked” using your personal Facebook profile. Simply “Like” you OWN Facebook page so that it appears here and select it from the menu to create a badge that allows your readers to like it too.
-
Facebook BADGES are no use! You’re better off having a Facebook Like Box instead! Just my opinion. When they have this it’ll be much better!
-
Thanks so much for sharing that opinion. In case you missed it and you are solution orientated that like box is a no can do unless you use the workaround at the top of this page.
-
Facebook badges function exactly the same as Like boxes. If you don’t like the text, you can just edit it.
You can also do a Like box on each post this way:

I want to put like box in a text widget in the sidebar – can do it in wordpress.org site but not .com site like box is better than like badge and yes get traffic to and fro – both wordpress and facebook sites offer different things so i need both.

@edenhopehistory: Reading your response, I’m not sure if you browsed through this thread to get the answer you needed. Have you read this thread in full?
