text widget not saving text

  • Unknown's avatar

The same thing started happening to me when I got my blogroll problem fixed. I’ve tried everything mentioned on this thread and it doesn’t work. I left feedback about it a few days ago, but haven’t heard anything back yet.

This just started happening on my page. I have a cached copy of my page from 6/22 that has several text widgets functioning properly; including one with javascript. Today, they are all gone and when I try to re-add them I can’t get them to save.

JM, please read the thread you just posted in. :)

    drmike,

Umm, yeah. I did read the thread before I posted. Just to be thorough I just read it again. I’m not sure what you are trying to draw my attention to. I don’t see a solution posted and I am still fighting the problem.

    Here you go:

Sounds like a backend problem. I vote for sending in a feedback so they can look at it. Strange that it works for me though.

There’s also where I asked questions of those who were having the problem.

    – What browser and version are you using?
    – What happens when you don’t reopen the widget before saving?

I’m wondering if it’s a proxy/ cache issue though. Have you tried clearing out your browser’s cache before visiting your site?

Just make sure you cut and save what’s in the text widget before closing it. So in case you need to do it again. It may take a few minutes to show on the main page. But if you’re impatient like me :) , just go to edit a post but don’t edit anything. Just click save.

I was updating my Text widgets today and found that it didn’t save my changes if the html code I wrote wasnt syntactically correct but did if it was spot on.

Any chance what you were copying and pasting had errors in it?

I have had the same problem for over a month. Everything was working fine until the end of June. Then my text widgets disappeared. All of them. When I try to recreate them and save I get nothing. This happens on several different computers while using both Firefox and IE6.

Any new news on what might be causing this?

    Thanks!

    @dbrink
Your profile says: Member Since August 2, 2006 (50 minutes) and does not list a blog to your name at wordpress.com. Your name is likewise not linked to a wordpress.com blog. So I’m wondering how you could have had this problem here on wordpress.com since June.

WordPress.org and wordpress.com are two different entities. WordPress.org is for self hosted or westhosted blogs I’m thinking perhaps you really ought to be on the other forum here http://wordpress.org/support/

Sorry timethief. I wasn’t aware of that. I just did a google search for the problem and this thread came up. I will ask at wordpress.org.

    Thanks!

This page says that the blogtoys from kucoon.com work with text widgets. I registered at the site and copied the code.

    This is the code
    <object type=”application/x-shockwave-flash” height=”170″ width=”150″ data=”http://www.kucoon.com/wp/wp-content/swf/df1257818c.swf”><param value=”http://www.kucoon.com/wp/wp-content/swf/df1257818c.swf” name=”movie” /><param value=”undefined” name=”BGCOLOR” /></object>

    The text disappears after saving.

    That’s from wp.org. This is wp.com.

We can’t use things like javascript, flash, java or any of the other funky stuff.

    Sorry. :(

I had the same problem (could not edit anything). My 1st best guess was that the code was run through some synatax validator and failed (and thus not saved). Not sure if this is actually the case.

    Anyways,
    1. I copied the code in the sidebar (starts with <div id=”sidebar”>) and
2 Pasted it into a text editor.
    3. Altered it, and
    4. Uploaded the file via FTP to the appropriate directory. For me that was /wp-content/themes/default.

    That worked for me.
    Hope that helps!

Was there ever a solution to this problem? I having the same thing. I add a text widget to my sidebar. I type nothing but plain old text into the customization window. I close the window. I hit save changes. Nothing appears on my blog and nothing appears in the text customization window if I go back to the sidebar widgets page.

I’m using Firefox 2.0.0.3 and Flash LNX 9,0,31,0.
