text widgets again

I know javascript is not allowed but does that mean I can’t put a URL in one either? You see, I can’t tell if my panel is blank cos of a bug, blank cos the content was disallowed or blank cos I’m stupid and haven’t worked out how to do it properly! Please enlighten me – I’ve searched every last post but can’t find the answer. The header appeared but not the content so I’ve removed it for now.

I don’t have a clue what it is you’re trying to put into a text widget, but links (url’s) are fine. From the FAQ:

    Using the text widget

Well something wasn’t fine! I wanted to write a sentence in plain English that said basically something like: for documents relating to policy in xxxx subject see xxx’s webpage with the word webpage having a link (I did it in the Post editing place and block copied it to the widget. Should there have been some html apart from those bits around the link? I already went to the page you pointed out but it didn’t say anything about urls…

Paste the code here so we can look at it. Put it between backticks so it displays properly.

For a quick link to the various policy documents relating to child and adolescent services, visit <a href="http://www.youngminds.org.uk/professionals/policy-and-knowledge/policy-across-the-uk/camhs-policy-across-the-uk">this page</a> on the YoungMinds site.

    Try this instead:

visit <a href="http://www.youngminds.org.uk/professionals/policy-and-knowledge/policy-across-the-uk/camhs-policy-across-the-uk">this page on the Young Minds site.</a>

Thanks, ellaella and raincoaster – that works fine though I don’t know why! Really appreciate everyone’s sharing of their knowledge. Hopefully I’ll rise up the ranks in due course and contribute for other people.

It was just a matter of a misplaced . I’m glad it’s working and happy blogging.

Hmph, it stripped it. Misplaced < / a > is what I said. And if it’s stripped this time, oh well… :)

Thanks – and I know you have better things to do but if I understand I won’t ask so often! – but the thing is, I really only wanted the words ‘this page’ to be the link ones (though it doesn’t matter. Now I have the whole phrase linked (so what I did was make THIS PAGE into caps so it would show up, as the text is all greyish and doesn’t distinguish links too well (on the blog itself I made the links red – could I make these words, say, green here?). If you haven’t time to reply, don’t worry. I know we’re all relying on kind people like yourself!

Here you go. If you look at both examples you’ll see the role the plays:

visit <a href="http://www.youngminds.org.uk/professionals/policy-and-knowledge/policy-across-the-uk/camhs-policy-across-the-uk"><font color="#339966">this page</font></a> on the Young Minds site.

You could use a different shade of green. Just paste all that into the code tab of your editor, switch to visual, open the extended toolbar (last icon on the right), highlight the link, click text color icon, choose color.

If you need to do this again, creating it in the editor, as if you were writing a post, then copying from the code tab will save you time if you’re not html-inclined. (Life’s too short, etc….)
