Text Widgets Disappeared from my Sidebar

I just noticed that all of the text widgets in my sidebar and footer have disappeared – vanished into thin air. Some of the widgets contained plain text – others contained the HTML code for my music player. What has happened? I did not delete these. Are their glitches in the system? I have worked very hard on my blog and I am very upset that these things just vanished into thin air this evening. HELP.

Did you by chance change themes?
Look at appearance > widgets and see if they are down in the “inactive” widgets area (lower left). If so, simply drag them back out and into place.
One suggestion though that will save you grief: Always copy and paste all your text widget codes and stuff out and into a plain text file and save it on your computer. If (and this is unlikely but always possible) there was a hiccup and all the code/text in text widgets disappeared, you would have copies of all of it and be able to get back up and running in a short time.

I already checked the inactive widget area and nothing is there. Literally, I was sitting at my computer surfing between my blog, email, statcounter and facebook and within a matter of minutes the stuff was gone. How can this happen?

Oh – and no – I didn’t change themes. Haven’t done anything different except post a new blog entry tonight. This is really strange.

You can also retrieve their content by visiting a cached version of a previous post, for instance cache:http://prayeatlovelaugh.wordpress.com/2010/10/06/ct-scan-update/ , view the sourcecode of the page and copy the relevant pieces of code. If you can’t do that, we can do it for you.

Thank you very much ;) You have both been very helpful. I was able to use the cache feature and recopy my text back into widgets and use source code to quickly replace the blog directory buttons in the widget area. Much thanks :)

I have the same problem. I have the blog http://gaycat.wordpress.com for years and it is the same time this happens!
My text widgets have dissapeared. And when I go to inactive widgets they are not there (in fact I have a lot of staff in inactive widgets and now is missing too)In the second column now it even appears a blogroll that I have not chosen.
I will try to find a cache and restore the old widgets but I just wanted to leave this message so that you know that something is happening with the widgets …
And by the way, when that happend about three hours ago I just had written a new post and I had chosen view post when I realised the blog had such a different content.

My situation occurred last night – and I had just posted a new blog post. Not sure what is going on….but hopefully it doesn’t happen again. Very frustrating :(
