Text wrapping of image captions

    Jeremey,

I just discovered a workaround that might help get to the bottom of this.

It appears that the alignnone attribute on the image class is what’s causing the image to center and shrink. It’s counterintuitive, to be sure, but when I remove alignnone, the image left aligns and displays at the dimensions I set.

Check out this post. I removed alignnone from every image (that I didn’t deliberately left or right align) and they all display as I want them to.

For captioned photos, the alignnone appears in the caption code, not in the HTML/CSS for the image itself. Deleting that alignnone has no effect, unfortunately.

So I present this mostly as a potential clue.

Thanks for pointing this out Jim! It does look like the alignnone class is causing the image to be pushed over to the right. We’re corresponding back and forth with the theme developer currently.

Jeremey, I am seeing that my WP-hosted images are now aligning properly and are showing at the size I set them to be. It looks like the theme developer corrected whatever was wrong there. Progress!!

However, if I use a caption and right- or left-align the image, the image does not keep the dimensions I set for it. If I remove the caption, the image honors the dimensions I set. If I keep the caption but set alignment to none, it honors the dimensions I set. I’d look for the theme to honor the dimensions I set under all circumstances.

I see you’re off next week for the big WP meetup. I hope you enjoy it!

    Hi Jim,

I was unable to reproduce this. Whenever I place a caption, set it to right or light aligned with a change in size the image remains the same size. I created a screencast of what I did:

Let me know if you have any questions with this!

    Hi Grace,

I see your screencast and raise you one.

I am able to reproduce the problem I describe on my blog. It shows up on this unpublished post scheduled for deep into the future:

I assume you can see my unpublished posts. The screencast will tell the story, too

    HI Jim,

So it looks like you are using the classic editor instead of the new. I’ll have our developers look into this.

In the meanwhile try using the new editor: http://wordpress.com/posts

    Thanks for the report!

    Hi Grace,

I am able to make it happen in the new editor, too. Could this be related to the theme I am using? The theme developer has been making changes to the way images render, especially when a caption is involved.

Screencast of this happening in the new editor:

Thanks for this. So it looks like it’s only happening in that same scenario where the caption is added after the image is already inserted. This also seems to be happening only if the image is insert at the Large or Full size – not Thumbnail or Medium. In any case this is a bug. I’ve added your most recent screencast to the report.

In the meanwhile if possible please add the caption when your adding the image to your post like in my screencast as a workaround until this is fixed.

    Thanks again!

Unfortunately, it is also happening when I add the caption at the same time I add an image to a post. Here’s a screencast.

I am seeing that when I choose Medium or Thumbnail, the image renders at the size I choose.

Cool – Thanks! Added to the report.

It looks to me like all of the bugs and enhancements I raised in this thread have been addressed. Thank you so much for working with the theme developer to get this done!

    You’re welcome.

    Cheers!
