Textbook theme

Is it possible to add a feature to a theme that does not support it? I want to add a custom background to this theme. This theme only needs a few more tweaks for me, like, changing the color of the site title and tagline, sidebar widgets title and the social media icons at the top of the page.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I do not have an answer for that specific question and do not assist with CSS editing but do read on please.
If you have the Premium or Business upgrade http://wordpress.com/plans and use Custom CSS, you can opt to apply custom CSS to a WordPress.com theme.
Note 1: If you have the required upgrade you can use this link https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform so you can create a thread that will appear in the CSS Forum where you will get the help you need with CSS editing.
Note 2: You can also post there prior to purchasing an upgrade to get an answer to whether or not what you want to do can be accomplished via CSS editing.

Yes, you can add a custom background to your site. The first step is to upload the image you want to use as a background, and then provide me with a link to your image in the media library. I’ll be glad to help you with the CSS code after that – there’s no need to repost again. Thanks!

Sure – but you don’t need CSS for that; you can change the page background colour in your Customizer’s Colors & Backgrounds panel by clicking on the blue circle labelled “background”:
I wonder if it’s the main content column’s background colour that you’d like to change. Please see my note on the page and let me know, thanks!

Ah – I see that you have activated the separate mobile theme. I would recommend turning that off, as it’s not needed. TextBook is fully responsive, and automatically adapts to any screen size. The mobile theme was meant for old themes that are not responsive, so it’s not needed here.
You can turn it off here in the WP Admin dashboard:
https://divinereconstruction.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?page=mobile-options
Select “No” next to “Enable mobile theme” and save your changes.

p.s. Also just a heads-up that since your site has a Premium plan, you’re entitled to live-chat and email support, accessible here:
https://wordpress.com/help/contact
You’re welcome to still post in these forums, but those other support avenues may be faster, and you’ll always get a staff reply.
