TextBook Theme: non-Static Front Page issue

  • Unknown's avatar

Whenever the ‘Static Front Page > Your latest posts’ option is checked in customization, the ‘Theme Options > Select Featured Page’ content gets erroneously dropped down into the body of the page. When ‘Static Front Page > A Static Page’ is checked, the site works as intended.

    Any help?

  • Hi @rtfrisk!

I see what you mean. We’re going to look into what is causing the problem, and we’ll post an update here when we know more.

For now, leave your settings as they are:

Customize > Static Front Page > A static page

and don’t select a home page. That will display things properly while we sort it out on this end :)

Hello. Thanks for this great theme. I am new to wordpress and have both the local development with wamp and the free account on wordpress.com. I downloaded the textbook theme into my local environment to do some work and it does not display options like testimonials properly. Also, testimonials is not on my left pannel nor can I added it. Am I missing something here? there is also an error on the main page when the Front Page Displays setting is Your latest post. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Jorge Gonzalez

  • Hi @mlsellers!

The local setup of Textbook you’ve described will be different than running the theme here on WordPress.com. WAMP is more like a self hosted WordPress site, which is a bit different.

Some of the features that work automatically on WordPress.com (like testimonials) will require the Jetpack plugin to work on a local or self hosted installation.

there is also an error on the main page when the Front Page Displays setting is Your latest post.

Is this the same error @rtfrisk reported above, where the Featured Page isn’t displayed properly when you select “Your latest posts?”

If so, please stay subscribed to this thread so you’re notified when we post an update :)

  • Hi @rtfrisk,

Thanks for reporting this issue – it’s very strange!

I’ve done some tests and made some adjustments to the code, and believe I have it fixed. It should be safe to switch your site to display ‘Your Latest Posts’ on the Front Page – the layout should remain the same now.

@mlsellers – I’ve also updated the download of the theme, so if this is indeed the same issue causing the error on your site, the newest version should fix it. If not, please let us know!

    Thanks!
