Text/image on sidebar widget not working

Hi,I’m following the ‘adding an image to your sidebar’ instructions to the letter and it’s not working for me. When I try to type in my URL with the additional <img src=”MY URL” > it wont let me have this on one line. It keeps img on the top line and then moves all the rest to the next line down. When I preview what i’ve done there’s nothing showing in the sidebar and when i then look at editing the widget again the only text left is ‘img’
Any aidea as to what I’m doing wrong – I’ve been at this for three hours and it’s driving me nuts!

I would try typing it into a post box as one line for example and then just highlight it all and cut and paste it into the text widget. Even if the line then divides in the text widget it should still work OK once you save it. It doesn’t have to all be in one line. And the cut and paste method seems to divide it in a way that doesn’t cause problems. You can then just erase whatever you put in the post editing box.
