Texting to Subscribers from WordPress
-
Is it possible to text to subscribers from wordpress on wordpress hosted sites? I have a wordpress.com hosted site (with premium CSS capability purchased already) and I want to send SMS text messages to when a new post is created to subscribers who will sign up from a contact form.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

WordPress.com Followers control how they receive updates, i.e in the Reader, by email, by email digest or by Jabber. For the full run-down: http://en.support.wordpress.com/category/following/

Hi Justjennifer, thanks for replying. My issue is we would like to text new post to those that have signed up to receive the posts by email. We would ideally like to have readers sign up and provide their phone numbers and carrier we would then have the new posts sent to them as a text. The WordPress.org users can do this with plug ins but I cant see anyway for wordpress.com sites to do this. Do you know if their is a widget coming or is it possible with css?
Thank you.

It’s not possible on WordPress.com, unless the Follower has set himself or herself up to receive notification by any of the methods listed in the full rundown I linked to.
As for CSS, not possible, as this is not what CSS does.
As for what’s coming, who knows? :)

Ok, thank you. Checking out Jabber now. I appreciate the quick responses. Have a good day!

You are welcome.
Just to see how all this works, I’d sign up to follow an active blog, like the WordPress.com News, and then test all the available options.

Why don’t you just create a contact form for people to sign up for this and ask for their phone numbers to text them updates? If I signed up to get blog posts by email and suddenly got text messages instead, I’d be pretty angry, particularly if my plan charged me for receiving a text.

@rain-That’s what the OP originally suggested. I’m not aware that they can set that up for their Followers on WordPress.com since its the Follower that determines how they receive notifications.

Well, yes, if the contact form says they’re signing up for texts they can surely send those people texts. WordPress.com software, however, can’t be configured to do that.
You can use an RSS to Text converter however as a workaround http://blog.themeforest.net/resources/7-rss-to-emailsms-services-you-can-use-for-your-item-feed/

I’ve been hanging out with hackers enough lately that I know there’s a converter for EVERYTHING out there.
