Thanks a lot for ruining my blogging experience

Where has the Classic Editor got to?
I refuse to use the block one. It is totally user-UNfriendly, and moreover – Writer unfriendly, with such a name, the writer’s worst fear…

Some already figured if you ever cancel the Classic Editor you might lose about 20% of your bloggers. I know I won’t be blogging any more unless I get the Classic Editor back. Not such a loss in my case being a light blogger. But I am willing to bet most of the older generation of bloggers, as in over 50 y/o, will go my way.

You have showed a total disrespect to the elders!

Plus, you’ve made a mess among all the other blog-managing pages. And without any preceding announcement.
I’m a bilingual blogger. Knowing nothing, I went this morning and changed the language interface to upload a new preprepared blog-post and almost couldn’t change it back to English after discovering that I cannot blog at all. To change the language I had to go back through the pages on the browser.

Having a quick look at your forums, I’m not the only one mad at you about this…

The Classic block looks just like the classic editor, but it’s in block form. Custom TinyMCE buttons are found in this block.

I am an unpaid volunteer who wrote this.

I have also asked for a Staff member to look at this to see if they have other suggestions for you.

My apologies for being unclear, I was just much more angry. And of course – not angry at anyone specific (especially not volunteers!) but at WordPress.

Right now I cannot look at anything, nothing will open. Not all posts, not pages. Besides, it is not a page I want to alter, but to post a new post…

Hi folks, I’m not staff, but it sounds like your account has been switched to the unified navigation which is being rolled out on WordPress.com. You can read about this here: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/unified-navigation/

If your account has been switched and you used to access the Classic Editor through WP Admin, you’ll need to turn on the Advanced Navigation in your Account Settings>Dashboard Appearance to access the Classic Editor.

The Classic Editor is currently available, but in the long run, you’ll want to give the full Block Editor or the Classic Block a workout. The more you use it, the easier it will become. WordPress.com also published a guide specifically for writers and bloggers that you can find here https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor-for-writers-bloggers/

    You also mentioned:

I went this morning and changed the language interface to upload a new preprepared blog-post and almost couldn’t change it back to English

The interface language for your sites is in the same place it’s always been, in your Account settings at https://wordpress.com/me/account But can you tell us a little about why you change your interface language before posting?

If you are instead wanting to change the language of your website, you would do this in your site’s settings at https://wordpress.com/settings/general/ which hasn’t changed.

I hope that helped, but please post back here if you have any other question about any of this.

That did it! Thank you so much! I can work again! I turned the advanced thing on.

And I am very sorry about my first message here. Anger tends to mess my thinking. So truly, I’m sorry.

As for the language switch it wasn’t where it should have been. Maybe that too was affected by the above not being turned on. I switch because I write in Hebrew and need the RTL settings, for it to look right.

I’m afraid I won’t want to use a block-anything so if WP cancel the classic, I’ll be gone. But for now thanks for all your help and patience :-)

Hello again, you’re welcome. Glad to help. Keep in mind that while you can currently use the Classic Editor in WP Admin, there’s no guarantee how long that Editor will be available to us. I really encourage you to start working with the block editor on draft posts so you can get used to it. It really is much easier to work with than it looks.

If you run into specific issues, please post a new thread and give as many details as you can, what you wanted to do, what you clicked on, what happened, what you expected to happen, and such like. I understand that transitioning to something new is difficult at first.

I switch because I write in Hebrew and need the RTL settings, for it to look right.

As far as writing in Hebrew, are you writing mixed RTL and LTR in the same post or are you writing separate posts in each language? Would you be willing to share a link to your WordPress.com website?

  • Unknown's avatar

Please again accept my apology for seeming to ignore your last message. That is not the case. I thought we were through and got busy with the delayed post. I only just thought to check again.

I do realize that that editor may disappear. I hope it won’t. Whenever it does I’ll simply be gone. And as someone else figured (that will also be gone), we may amount to about 20% of the bloggers.
I am simply too old to even think to struggle with something so not intuitive and so different than what I’ve known for decades.

You’ll be more than welcome at my blog, if you wish to visit at:
    lweaveswords.wordpress.com

most of the posts are mixed RTL and LTR, unless there are too many photos. Then I post twice – one RTL and one LTR.

  • Unknown's avatar

No need to apologize. We’re incredibly busy this week getting ready for next week. ;-)

I see what you mean about the combined RTL/LTR posts and, frankly, thank you for introducing me to the concept. It is a bit of a hassle, but looks like it works well.

If you are comfortable working in HTML, a number of years ago, someone suggested this tip: https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/bilingual-posts-hebrew-english/ I haven’t tried it recently and will do so later in a test account.

  • Unknown's avatar

If I find I was rude, of course I’ll apologize :-)

And thanks for the tip. But truth is HTML scares me. The Classic Editor has a button that does it for me – changes the direction. A newer version of the Classic I checked once (if memory serves) lacked it which is why I kept using the older version. (I’m assuming the new one lacks it too?).

And if I did use once HTML to create the jump to the Hebrew section (when it’s too much text) I truly did it only the first time and I copy-paste ever since.

And welcome to my blog :-) tomorrow’s post will be (to my way of thinking) one of the more interesting I ever posted.

  • Unknown's avatar

Interesting. I’ll definitely have to check it out. Cheers!
