That hostname cannot be added to this blog.

  I am trying to get the paid upgrade use ‘example.com’ vs. ‘example.wordpress.com’. GoDaddy says my chosen domain (which is the same name then my name.wordpress.com domain now.) is available. When I enter it under Upgrades – Domain – I get the message “That hostname cannot be added to this blog.”
  What am I doing wrong?????

  I kept getting that and it ended up being because I wasn’t putting the “.com” after the name.
  So what I was putting was the “thepurpledogpaintingblog”
  When I actually needed to put “thepurpledogpaintingblog.com”

  Hopefully it’s that simple. :)

  Hm…now I have bought the blog and made it my primary, but I can’t open it. It says google search name.com not found. Any idea?

  @birgitwalsh: I can see birgitwalsh.com just fine now. It may take up to 72 hours, but usually less than that, for you to view your blog at your new address.
