The ability to post comments disappeared

I have had two posts. After the first one people were able to post comments. After the second one (<24 hours later) the ability to post comments is gone. I did not change any settings (it was set to allow all comments). Please help!

The front pages of our blogs showcase content and comments are collapsed on that page. The way the comments function is coded into the core of WordPress. By clicking the post title or the comments link the posts on the front page open on their own page where all comments display.
In a new blog, one does not have many posts or comments. In an established blog if the comments did not collapse on the front page it would become a mile long in no time flat and page loading time is a page ranking factor. We have only seconds before visitors refuse to wait and click out.

You can enable and disable comments on WordPress.com blogs on this page Dashboard > Settings > Discussion
That is where you set up defaults for comments and other comment options http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/You can override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any individual post or page.

Hi. Thank you for your reply but i do not think that is the issue. The ability to post a comment no longer exists.
I had 41 comments onvthe first post and zero for the second even though it was posted 12 hours later. There is no ability to post comments now for some reason.

Have you edited the post in question and checked the comment setting on the post that received no traffic?

Hi – I did not initially change any of the comment settings but I have since done so in an effort to get the comments feature to work. I thought that the fact that I originally had the ‘Allow comments of future posts’ unchecked was the issue but I have since checked that box and copied the entire 2nd post and posted it again..still no comments can be added.
Any help would be appreciated. I am happy to pay/upgrade to make this work. It is a blog I created to update family and friends on my wife’s cancer surgery.

Upgrading will not address a comment issue. In fact, upgrading changes nothing to do with comments at all.
Only Staff can help with this comment issue. Please simply stop doing anything at all and wait for Staff to assist you. Know that Staff work through all thread tagged with modlook in datestamp order addressing threads with the earliest datestamps first and working forward to the most recent as would be expected.

Hi @diaryofamadmike,
I see a post that has comments disabled. Did you want to reenable them for that post? This would have been a checkbox that was unclicked somehow when you were writing the post.
