the 'about' section used to sit underneath header title and beside 'home',

  when I hover beside ‘home’ link a link is there, un-labelled, i have looked at it through pages, configurations, etc and can’t see ho to re-assert link so that ‘about’ is showing and page connected to home page.

  I do see two titleless pages over here. Otherwise try to create a custom menu item at ‘Appearance’ -> ‘Menus’ in your blog’s dashboard. Please read this guide to learn more about custom menu items.
