The Appearance of My Site

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I wonder if you can help me to get my site back into its previous form. I was trying to set up another site and wondered how that theme would look on my main site. However, I must have made a mistake and can’t seem to convert it to its previous theme which I think was Chateau. Also, my site now looks like the advertising site for another company which was the model for the theme. Many thanks for your help. Much appreciated.

The site I need help with is sebnemsanders.wordpress.com.

  • Hi there,

I’m not exactly sure which site you are trying to restore to a previous form. You are referring to sebnemsanders.wordpress.com yes? That appears to be a new site you set up under your WordPress.com account, so are you trying to copy content over from another site I am not able to see? If so what is the URL? Is it online so that we can visit and see it over there?

    Thanks for the additional info!

    Hi Jerry,

Many thanks for your reply. I am referring to https://sebnemsanders.wordpress.com/

I’m not trying to move any content to another site. I tried making a separate site, but it’s not live yet. There’s nothing in it. However, (email visible only to moderators and staff) has been around since 2014, I think. I was trying to see how another theme would look, but I must have done something wrong and can’t move it back to its previous appearance.
How/where would I find the URL?

    Thank you very much.

PS. Correction: However, (email visible only to moderators and staff) has been around since 2014, I think.

  • Hi there,

The Chateau theme was retired several years ago, so it’s no longer listed in the theme showcase. That’s why you’re not seeing it.

But you can still reactivate it on the site where you had it before from WP-Admin:

    https://sebnemsanders.wordpress.com/wp-admin/themes.php?search=chate

You can continue using a retired theme for as long as you want, but you should be aware that this theme no longer receive updates or bug fixes. Eventually it will stop working entirely as the WordPress software evolves to a point where the theme is no longer compatible with it. So do keep on trying out new themes :)

To avoid messing up your site when trying out themes, you can create a new free site in your account. Set it to private, import some of your content to it, and then you can use it to test out themes until you find the right one.

Thank you very much for your help. I’ll try to re-activate it if I can. At the moment my home page looks like the advertising site of a tourism agency. I hope the link works. Most appreciated.

It has gone back to Chateau, but again on my Home page, the Exford theme continues with its photos and ads. How can I deactivate it or remove it?

  • again on my Home page, the Exford theme continues with its photos and ads.

The theme Chateau is currently active on your site, and there are no elements of other themes on it.
Could you share a screenshot of what exactly you are referring to? You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/) and paste the link into your reply. That would help us understand the issue. Thanks!
