The breath taking sight of blog ads
-
Well, I still have my breath. Because I can’t see them. Unless I visite my weblog by way of the computer of a stranger. So there you have my question: why was decided that a blog administrator should not see the ads on his own pages? Don’t you agree that I have at least the moral right to see them myself…?
-
Can’t argue with that but, to be honest, it’s not something I’ve lost sleep over. I do have disclaimer in the sidebar, though, pointing out that they’re nothing to do with me.
For monitoring my blog – seeing what others see – I use IE (my main browser is Firefox) – as I’ve never logged in from IE, WP sees me as a stranger. Saves going out in the rain to borrow someone else’s PC.
-
Firefox here. I just used IE for a peek. No ads. Which doesn’t say much I guess, my house only receives a humble amount of visitors so I guess I’m not bankable. Still, I wonder why admins are prevented to see any ads.
A reminder, yes. Thanks for reminding me that I have to widget one too. There are commercial terrorists which I absolutely abhor.

There’s really been quite a lot of discussion about WordPress.com running ads on WordPress.com blogs. You can read more about it by clicking on the Adsense tag I added to this thread and http://en.support.wordpress.com/advertising/
-
Ads are shown only to a very small percentage of viewers. We make an effort never to show them to regular readers and users – you normally won’t see ads on any WordPress.com blogs, not just your own.
It’s not about hiding them from you; it’s about not pestering our users with ads.
-
Well, not only do you have the moral right, you obviously have the ability, since you saw them.
This is exactly why there is a No Ads upgrade.
-
raincoaster,
I think I saw them once, surfing on someone else’s pc, but to be honest I’m no longer sure. It could be that I read that some forum-user mentioned HE saw them on his blog.
I just want to be able to check. I simply want to know what sort of ads I may have gotten stuck with. We’ve been over this before in the past, I’m very against slimming pills and botox and sperm volume increasement sellers and a few other of these commercial nonsensicals. I saw someone’s screenshot featuring a ‘Call us’ Scientology ad. It upset me quite a lot, I’m VERY against Scientology, I write about these sects like a crusader. Now if I see such atrocities connected to MY intellectual property, I immediately close down my blog.
That’s why I ask. -
-
There is ONLY one way that you can control the nature of the advertising that appears on your free hosted wordpress.com blog and that’s to purchase the no-ads upgrade http://support.wordpress.com/no-ads/
-
…Still haven’t found the option to activate my name link again. Since the upgrade, I keep forgetting where it’s hidden. Somewhere in the dashboard I saw my weblog url typed in, so it’s not that.
timethief,
Yes, that’s an option. No ads whatsoever. We make an effort never to show them to regular readers and users
My regulars would only be shocked it they saw me favving Scientology…
…I suppose asking wordpress to simply stop making effort for my benefit is the wrong question?Ads are shown only to a very small percentage of viewers.
Okay, that’s quite reassuring. -
