The changing title name…WT..!

  • Unknown's avatar

    I’m really finding this annoying, but somehow wordpress adds title names to my some of my posts using names as “Next Post” or “Previous Post”. I specifically don’t fill in a title when creating posts and the title will remain empty. But sometimes wordpress will add a title out of the blue (and this happens randomly it seems). What could cause this? It’s REALLY annoying…! Somebody knows?

    I’ve left the ‘errors’ as it is now for viewing. As you can see from the main page, the second post from the top (title says “Next Post”) and the 4th post from the top (title says “Previous Post”) are the wrong one whereas all other posts don’t have a title as it should be. The strange thing is these post are already old posts and didn’t have titles before. But suddenly today (actually just now) they have titles. This has happened before with other posts. Howcome?

    Thanks for any help!!!

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    And now it’s suddenly gone….

    Anyone have this too?

    Staff have been fiddling behind the scenes. Seems like they’ve finished.

    @starsquid

    I specifically don’t fill in a title when creating posts and the title will remain empty.

    I don’t understand why you would not give your posts titles. From an SEO perspective you are playing hide and seek with search engines and potential visitors. By choosing not to have titles, which ought to contain keywords that potential visitors use to locate articles of interest, it seems to me that you are doing your blog a disservice.

    @timethief

    I’m aware of that, I specifically chose to not fill in a title because I wanted the title in a brown bar using a specific font in the preview image of a post (design above functionality, I know). But I’m making up for it with tags. Right now I’m not writing for a mass audience yet so for the time being it’s ok unless I come up with something better. Since I don’t have the CSS upgrade, the way I would like to display the title is somewhat limited, you get me :)
    And the titles spaces articles even wider, I didn’t want that too, that’s why I opted to display the title as part of an image at the expense of well..an actual text-title.

    I also know that titles don’t show up in my categories or archive widgets, though I’m still looking for ways to fix this.

    Again, design above functionality hehe

    and it’s a photoblog (although I do write lenghty articles from time to time, foremost purpose of the blog is to show photo’s)

    :)

    Seriously, for reasons too technical to go into, you CANNOT make up for the lack of title with tags, with categories, with sacrifices to the gods, or with ANYTHING. Unless you want your posts to be visible basically only to people who stumble across them randomly without the use of search engines, you are doing your blog serious damage.

    @starsquid

    I remember you! raincoaster is right that your lack of titles is seriously hurting your SEO power. Did you ever try my suggestion here? (for hiding your post titles?)

    @starsquid
    I agree 100% with raincoaster.

    Just in case you aren’t aware of the following I’m posting it. The Google crawler cannot read image scripts, therefore using the ALT attribute (providing a description) will allow you to tell the crawler what the image is referring to. If you want your images to be indexed by the search spiders then give your images the full treatment (TITLE tag, ALT tag Description).

    Also be sure the articles any images are displayed in get the full SEO treatment (title and subtitle containing keywords) and assignment of concise and relevant categories and tags.

    Lastly, note that the Google image crawler is a slow crawler and may not be back to fully index images on your site your site for up to 6 months.

    mmm
    a forum where people actually try to help each other?
    We, none of us, are disagreeint!

  • Unknown's avatar

    except for typos:none of us are dissagreed. (ie: we agree!)

    GAK
    ≥^!^≤

  • Unknown's avatar

    You’re right. This is a forum where members do actually answer questions from the POV of improving one another’s blogs and blogging practices. That’s why it’s so cool.

    Sigh … I just can’t justify spending $ from my meager budget to purchase a new keyboard that has visible lettering on the keys. I guess I’ll slow way down and be sure that I don’t leave as many typos so people don’t assume I can’t spell … lol :D I can spell but I’ve never taken a typing course.

    I know starsquid is intelligent and means well, which is why I didn’t jump on that originally. It was when I saw the “I’m making up for it with tags” that I had to say something. Because you just can’t; it reflects a basic wrong assumption.

    TT I can get you a new keyboard once I’m back in Vancouver. You might even be able to mail order one: http://www.rebootvancouver.ca/ They have them from $5

  • Unknown's avatar

    @raincoaster
    $5. Wow! Thanks for the offer. I just bookmarked that place. If I ever get to over to the big V, I would probably go nuts spending every dime I have and then using plastic. lol :D I’m bushed out here on this tiny rock – no doubt about it.

    Anyway, if all goes well I ought to be able to afford a new keyboard at the end of next month. What peeves me off is that all this one needs is little sticky letters I could put on the keys.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Try using model paint. It’s the same plastic as models, so it should work.

  • Unknown's avatar

    Oh gosh… all the fuss over a little thing…which wasnt the original intention of this post anyways…! :o

    @raincoaster
    Chill buddy, it’s the holidays c’mon. I am aware of the consequences of not filling in a title and yes tags don’t make up for everything, and like I said design above functionality, not having the CSS upgrade mean you’re somewhat limited in how to display the title. And I want the title to be displayed as it is now (using that font in a brown bar under the preview image) and I don’t see no other way to do this by filling in a title (unless you come up with a great solution not requiring the CSS). And right now I’m OK with my blog being a bit limited for search engines to find. I know you’re the coding wizz but I’m not and thats why Im working on improving it…! Have a beer!

    @Timethief
    Thanks for all your input as always, appreciate it! I will look into other ways to (sorry to use it again) make up for not having a title (just because I don’t like the way the title is displayed by its theme) using the things you described.

    @1tess
    I remember you too! Still cooking those delicious recipies huh :D
    And I will try your method of hiding the title (honestly, I can only look at so much code in one day). Thanks!

    But right now…oh what’s that…? My DS and Zelda! The hell with titles! DS first! ;)

    Happy New Year everybody!

  • Unknown's avatar

    Thanks ever so much for the instruction to chill out. It means so much to me.

  • Unknown's avatar

    They’re appearing agaaaaaaaaain! The ‘NEXT POST’ & ‘PREVIOUS POST’ title names…!
    Staff, whats goin on…whyyyy…WHY MEH!!!!!!!

    a whopping 4 times this time!!!

  • Unknown's avatar

    I do NOT see them at all. I use the very same theme Vigilance and I do NOT see them on my blog either. If Staff do intend to add this feature to Vigilance I would welcome it.

  • Unknown's avatar

    I know, it seems if I post a complaint about it here they magically dissappear.

    But…!
    I caught them red-handed and print-screened it, and I will post it on my blog now as it appeared on the home page.
    Im not hallucinating, honestly!

    What is the deal here WP
