Hi there!
The standard way that Mailchimp suggests you insert their signup form uses javascript and form code, which for security reasons is not allowed on WordPress.com.
However, they provide alternate instructions for signup forms on WordPress.com sites here:

Let me know if I can help with anything else!

Hi Shawna,
I followed the mailchimp instructions, setting up a new page titled “test for mailchimp”
I copied the code into text. In visual it still appears the same as in text.
Is this something you can help me with?
thanks heaps

Looks like you’re almost there! You just need to turn your URL into a link. You’ll see if you click on Preview that the link becomes active on your actual site. This is because we automatically turn anything starting with http:// into a link.
You can also change this so that your link is behind some descriptive text like this: Mailchimp form.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/links/
Or create an image link by following these directions:

Let me know if I can help further!

I have tried copy paste from your email and several times to change the title of the Mailchimp link. It continues to show up at the text. Ugh!

You won’t be able to copy and paste the link. You’ll need to set it up yourself following these directions:
