The comments section should become more of a conversation
-
I think that the comments section of the blog posts should become more of a conversation. Any time someone posts a comment with @anotherAlias they’re trying to have a conversation. The problem is that anotherAlias has no way of knowing that someone is trying to talk to them. So instead of having @’s all comments should be able to have replies, and those replies should be able to have replies. Then a person can be notified that someone is trying to have a conversation with them.
The notifications should not be emails (we all get enough of those). It should be a status pane, which would exist on our dashboard, or on the wordpress home page. Then when I view my dashboard one of the stat’s I’ll see are responses on any wordpress blog to comments that I’ve made. That way I’ll have a reasonable chance of repsonding. Also, I’d like it if the status pane was a Web Slice. That way when there is a change, it’ll turn bold on my favorites bar. And if not a webslice, at least an RSS feed.
The idea that all of the comments to a blog post are about the blog post is not realistic. I would much rather have the blogs be starts to conversations. -
Are you aware that all WordPress.com blogs can have threaded comments?
You can set that up on this page Settings> Discussion -
I looked for that, but didn’t see it earlier. I guess it helps to know the exact words to look for.
Is there an RSS feed I could subscribe to that would consist of replies to my comments? -
Every wordpress.com has two built in RSS Feeds
This is the RSS Feed URL for your posts (entries) http://jader3rd.wordpress.com/feed/
This is the RSS Feed URL for all comments on your blog > http://jader3rd.wordpress.com/comments/feed/We can also subscribe to comments on any individual page or post. See here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/comment-subscriptions/
This is the format for the RSS feed URL for subscribing to individual categories >
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/category/categoryname/feed/
This is the format for subscribing to individual tags >
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/category/categoryname/feed/As you are new to WordPress.com I can recommend a comprehensive tutorial. The Learn WordPress.com tutorial is divided into progressive levels and presented as a series: http://learn.wordpress.com/
All support documentation is here > http://en.support.wordpress.com and that search box provides results from forum threads as well as from the documentation.
Hope this helps :)
