The CSS coding for a blank background/banner
-
Hi,
I’m a graphic designer, I want to know how to do the CSS code for the following…
1. I want to choose a theme that the background can be blank,
so I design background entirely.2. I want a center column over this background that is somewhat
see through3. I want a task bar “near the top” to click on for different pages such
as: about, folio, etc.4. The actual top (banner) I want the option to design as well.
Very simple, very clean, so I can populate the website with my designs

If you’re literate in CSS and want a “blank canvas” so to speak, then the Sandbox theme might be an option for you: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sandbox-162/. This theme is very stripped back and designed specifically with “CSS artists” in mind.

You can actually use any theme as a blank canvas with the Custom Design upgrade by selecting the “Start Fresh” option in the Appearance > Customize > CSS panel.
Everything else on the list can be done with CSS.
Even though you can use any theme as a blank canvas, I would recommend starting out by selecting a theme you like the look of but would like to modify. Then you’ll have a really good base to start with and you can add CSS to make the changes from your list without having to do an entirely new design from scratch — which is doable, but not the best place to start if you’re not an expert with CSS.
Check out the themes at http://theme.wordpress.com/ to see if you can find one that you like.
Check out the Twenty Twelve theme too, it’s simple and nice and you might like it for adding CSS modifications:
