The customization for my recent sites is great; but for older sites, is AWFUL

  I opened two blogs this weekend, and customized the themes with ease. But I’ve just been added as an administrator to blog a few months old, and it’s a nightmare. I’m being asked to install things, and it’s beyond confusing. Why are my two recent blogs so easy to customize? Why isn’t the theme page more simple on the older site?

  It sounds as though the sites are hosted somewhere other than wordpress.com. That’s especially true of the site at which you’re being asked to install things. That’s something we don’t have to do here – indeed, can’t do.
  So I think that your question belongs at the wordpress.org forums. Folks there would probably appreciate the URIs of the blogs in question.
