The date on a new post is showing up wrong (older than the actual date) — how can I change it?

Edit the post and change the datestamp. I know you don’t

Thanks … I changed the “Published on” date in the Publish box (several times) — but it’s still showing up wrong.
(The date is defaulting to the day I launched the blog and published my first posts in August.)
Other workarounds?

The default timezone is UTC.
Is the date and timezone correctly set to reflect your own timezone on this page? Settings > General
