my domain appears not to be available, howcome? i own økocentralen.dk and get the above answer when I try to map it.
In the domain information page of my “registrar”, it says my DNS name xn--kocentralen-fgb.dk but when I type that, I get the answer: The domain name you entered cannot be mapped to a WordPress.com blog.
I know I have to pay 13 dollars to map my domain, but I haven’t even been given this option yet. How can I proceed? Is it because I am using a free theme?Yours sincerely,

I think this is the problem:
Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs)
Your domain name is an IDN if it contains language-specific characters such as ä, û, ע, ж, 字, मा.
Domain mapping for IDNs, also known as Internationalized Domain Names, is not currently supported.

Thanks lizthefair for the accurate assist.
WordPress.com is unable to map IDNs at this time.

Hi there,
Thank you for answering so fast.
I want to keep a blog on wordpress, but I understand that in my case, the “ø” is the challenge, so I might wanna try to name it okocentralen.dk in stead.
How do I go about that? I thought I heard something about one domain pointing to another. Is that so? And must I then buy both domains? Thanks for your help so far!

It looks like the “.dk” extension means that you can’t register the new domain through WordPress.com, but you should be able to map it.
If you were ok with a different extension (your options are .com, .net, .org, .co, .me, .info, .biz, .mobi, .com.br, .net.br, .mx, .es, .nl, .be, .fm, .tv, and .in.), you could register a new domain right from your dashboard.
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/register-domain/If you are committed to .dk, here’s info on mapping:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/If you aren’t in a big hurry, it’s probably better to wait for @ jackiedana to verify that http://okocentralen.dk can be mapped to a WordPress.com site. I’m 99% sure it will work, but I’d hate for you to buy a new domain and it turn out that I was wrong.

Dear LizTheFair,
Thank you for your participating reply ;)
You are right! I don’t actually know whether it is the “ø” or the “.dk” that is the problem, so if @jackiedana is looking at this, it would be awesome if she wants to answer that :)
About the mapping of “.dk” I already read that and I also sent a request to my dk hostmaster asking them to tell me how to go about this. I can’t be only danish person wanting to map a non-english domain to my WP-blog.
Just to clearify: I wish to register økocentralen.dk to my WP-blog.
Thanks for all thoughts and help so far!
Best,

@Alice. Just to be clear the “ø” is definitely not possible with a WordPress.com site.
We just need @jackiedana to confirm okocentralen.dk can be mapped to a WordPress.com site.

right!
well, then I need advice on what my better option is if I want people to find my WP-blog when they write økocentralen.dk which is the domain I currently own.
Im know the “.dk” is possible. I’ve loads of examples of danish people using their “.dk” domain with WP-blog.
Thanks a lot again :)

You can map a .dk domain to WordPress.com, but you cannot map an IDN because our system will not recognize it.
