The Editor
-
My Editor in my Dashboard has reverted to the old Editor with no undo button and no new features. I cannot understand why. I tried clearing the spam folder (I did have quite a few there) and they are now gone but the editor remains the same. In fact, every time I save a post, it reverts to Text and not Visual. I’m not sure what to do next. Another question, have I cleared the cache by getting rid of the spam? Can you please help me! Tess from Life with Tess http://tessross.wordpress.com/

Why has my Editor reverted back to the old edition? It is annoying as there is no undo button and no SEO capability. Can anyone help?

I’m not sure I know what you mean. Could you take a screenshot of your editor page so I can see what you see? Also, just as a tip, it’s better not to double post on your own threads. I know it’s hard to wait for a reply, but one of the ways volunteers and staff identify people who need help is by checking for threads without replies. By double posting, you actually make it more likely that your question will be overlooked.

Hi, Sorry about that but I felt as if my query had been lost to oblivion! The whole thing was very ambiguous to me. I didn’t want it to go to the
Community as I felt I needed an expert. The problem is the editor where I do my writing. WordPress updated this editor which included an undo button, a SEO place to put No. 1 headings etc. Three weeks ago, without any warning, my editor reverted back to the old one we used to use. Also, it refuses to stay in visual mode and keeps going back into text.
I have taken a screen shot but it will not copy into this editor here so I have attached it to the email you sent me. Tess

The support process here is different than you may be used to, but once you get used to it, I think you’ll like it. We have volunteers here in the forums who have been helping other users for 8 years–longer than most of the staff people have been with WordPress, so while everyone who helps you may not be paid by Automattic, you are absolutely in expert hands :)
On to your problem. I should have told you in order to share a screenshot you need to upload it to a screen sharing program. A lot of people use Snag.gy as it’s fast and easy. Attaching it to the e-mail doesn’t work I’m afraid.
That having been said, I think I might know what’s going on. When you start a post do do it from this link? https://wordpress.com/post/?
If so, that editor has been undergoing updates that has made it fragile and generally unhappy for awhile. If you click the last icon in the row of buttons you see on the editor, you’ll get the undo button back, but that won’t help the problem with it going back to the text editor rather than the visual editor.
Your best bet is to do your posts from the fully featured editor in your dashboard. You can get there by going to posts>add new on your dashboard, or by clicking this link:
https://tessross.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post-new.php.
I hope that helps. If not, please re-share the screenshot by using the process I outlined above and I’ll make sure there isn’t something else going on with your editor.

Thank you so much for your detailed reply. It is much appreciated. One thing you wrote worked! I always start my posts from the post: add new so that part is fine. What I hadn’t done was click on the last icon … who would have thought??
I am very good technically so I couldn’t believe it was so simple. Why though, do we have to now click on that icon to bring up the full aspects of the editor? When I ‘save draft’ in the editor, it goes back to what I call the ‘old editor’ without the undo button!
Still, now that I know how to get it back, I’ll be fine. Hopefully, it ends up getting fixed one day but for the moment, I’m happy to know how to get there!
Much appreciated
Tess
