The editor does not show content properly
-
Whenever I access the editor for a page or a post, the editor seems to default every element to be not wide- or full-width. This results in the elements that are wide- or full-width appearing compressed lengthwise.
The site still appears correctly. It’s only the editor that is broken. I do not recall changing any settings and all of my sites are free sites.
Changing theme or site does not affect this. Deselecting the wide- or full-width option and re-selecting it does not work either. I have also tried clearing my cookies and cache.

I have to add that this seems to be happening across browsers, and whether extensions are active or not.

Yes, I’ve noticed this also.
The compressed editor display issue was observed using both Brave & Safari.
Hope they fix it soon… -
What I see:
– when I open pre-formatted Patterns, every option in the list is displayed as being (laterally) compressed.
– when I select a Pattern to use, it is also displayed in the editor in this same compressed manner. -
Hi there,
When you say compressed does the aspect ratio of the elements within the editor change or they are scaled-down?
I’m asking this because the editor has to make room for the editing toolbars and therefore there’s not much space to display the posts or page as it’ll be published on the site. For that, you can use the Preview button.

Hi,
I mean that the aspect ratio changes.
I’ve been using patterns on my site extensively, and this is a new issue I’ve observed over the past fews days.
I’m using the default Twenty Twenty-One theme.
When I search for a pattern to use (by clicking the brown “+” icon), the sidebar display of approx. 75% of available patterns (across all categories: featured, images, etc.) now appears compressed: elongated.
If I select any one of these patterns which appear compressed, that changed aspect ratio carries forward into the editor, making editing impracticable at best (such patterns appear in the editor as very thin, tall columns).
About 25% of the patterns continue to display at they should, in both the sidebar selection display, as well as in the editor once selected.
I very much enjoy using patterns, so this matter is frustrating.
The same issue is present when using Brave, Safari & Opera browsers.
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks. -
@flyingdisc, would you be able to share a screenshot of what you see on your end when adding the patterns? You can use an online tool for that (such as https://snipboard.io/) and paste the link into your reply.
Also, remember that with your plan, you can access Live Chat directly via https://wordpress.com/help/contact. That way, you can get help faster.

Here’s a screenshot of a pattern displayed as compressed in the sidebar:

Hm, ok, I see the problem there, but at this point I think it would be best if you continue with our live chat support at https://wordpress.com/help/contact given the amount of back-and-forth this will likely take to narrow down the cause.
