The editor has encountered an unexpected error

    I am unable to edit in Gutenberg. I get this message: The editor has encountered an unexpected error. Attempt Recovery Copy Post Text

    If I go into Pages, I can select Classic Editor and edit, but if I try to edit directly from the page or try to switch to Gutenberg, I get the same error message.

    The site is via free WordPress.com so I have no plugins that would be causing conflict.

    Hi there,

    That is an issue I have not seen come up before. Can you tell me a bit more about the trouble you are having?

    Firstly, Which site is this for? I see you have a few on your account. Or is this an issue you see in several (or all) of your sites?

    Can you visit this page and let us know what you see for “Operating System” and “Web Browser”?

    Also when you are editing your site do you happen to use our app instead of the web browser? If so what version of the WordPress app are you using? Thanks for the additional info!

    My operating system is MacOS Catalina, v. 10.15.6. Web Browser is Chrome 85.0.4183.121

    I seem to be having the issue on all of my wordpress.com sites. I edit from my web browser, not the app. I usually use Chrome but switched to Safari to test and it happens on both. When I try to edit either through Pages or directly from edit on the page, I get the “The editor has encountered an unexpected error. Attempt Recovery Copy Post Text Copy Error”

    If I go into pages, I can select Classic Editor and can edit, but if I switch to Gutenberg, I get the error.

    Thanks for the additional info! I’ve tried accessing pages in Gutenberg but do not see that message. For me the editor loads without issue.

    To clarify, you are accessing Gutenberg from within wp-admin? Or are you editing your page starting from here? https://wordpress.com/pages/

    The editor is the same in either location, but it loads a bit differently based on where you are starting from, so knowing that will help us take a closer look.

    Out of curiosity, if you launch an incognito window in Chrome, and log in to your account that way, are you able to edit without issue? https://wordpress.com/log-in/
