the em function, and a newbie mistake?

I’m posting this anew as it is more specific. I think I me be about to goof here. I just bought the CSS upgrade. I’m want my blog only to display fixed font sizes, not relative. I opened up the style sheet editor. I was going to simply go through, and wherever I found an element I wanted to change (h1) for example, I would use an em calculator, like this one I found:

    http://riddle.pl/emcalc/

and work my way backwards to a pixel size. So if the style sheet I see on the screen says 0.80 em, I can work backwards and come up with 12.9 px? Does this sound right.

Then I would just go through and wherever I found the em symbol, I would replace it with the equivalent in px. Will this work? Can I just do this to the sheet that comes up in the box when I click on edit CSS, and then save it? I don’t want to risk messing up my site and having it down for a while. All I really want is for all of the fonts to stay just as they appear when Internet Exporer’s text size is set to medium. Can anyone help with this?

Thanks! If it makes a difference, the Theme is Tarski.
