The file block

Sorry guys. It’s me again. I’ll try not to rant.

I hadn’t posted for a while. I started a post and realized I was in the block editor. I thought, ok, I’ll try to finish it. My experience was not good. There is too much space between the header and the following text. Everything, even simple tools, was hard to find, and things that belong together are not. Blocks and boxes of things kept getting in the way. But ok, you know all that.

My question is about the “file block.” In the past, you could put in a link in the text and the user could click the link and download the file, just like on almost any other website on the planet. But now, in the block editor, you have to use a “file block” and whatever text is in the file block gets turned into a link and you also get a big ugly “Download” button. Is there any way to actually just put a link in that looks normal? Hitting the link button seems only to allow urls, not files hosted on the WP site like before. The only way I could see to do this was to use the “file block,” which instead of being integrated in the text, again like any other website on the planet, sticks out like a dislocated thumb.

    This is on textrhet.com

    Thanks

OK, I figured out how to get rid of the Download button, which is quite redundant if you have a link. I still can’t make it look like I want to, a simple link in the midst of my text. It has to sit there as a block all by itself.

But I don’t think there is any solution to this except not to use the block editor.

Thanks. My mistake. Nothing to see here.
