the follow widget

Why are some people not able to sign into my blog using the follow wiget? Some people can indeed sign in, but some are saying thatg they never receive a message to confirm, and I as the owner of the blog never see anything. I have asked them to check their SPAM file, and they insist that nothing is there either. I expect to have thousands of followers, but before I upgrade my account I need to know that anyone wanting to foll me can actually do that. How can we solve this issue.?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I’ll tag this thread for Staff assistance. Staff cannot examine what’s going on unless or until you provide specific usernames of the WordPress.COM users who have this issue, and/or you provide email addresses for those who do not have wordpress.com accounts. The software will redact ie. HIDE the email addresses so only Staff can see them. After posting that information please subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Note that I cannot locate any footer widgets on your blog. Kelly supports three columns of widgets in the site’s footer. Add some widgets by going to Appearance → Widgets.

Here at WordPress.COM our subscribers make the decision to act and to subscribe to our blogs. They control their own subscriptions; we don’t. They also determine how frequently they wish to receive our posts (instantly, daily, weekly, never) by email. Many choose to follow in the WordPress.COM Reader rather than by email.

You can set up email subscriptions here > Appearance > Widgets > Follow Blog Widgets by using this guide > http://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/follow-blog-widget/

If you would like a follow button to appear on the bottom right hand corner of your site for those who do not have WordPress.com accounts go to > Settings > Reading and scroll down to Follower Settings:

These settings change emails sent from your blog to followers.
Logged out users __ Show follow button to logged out users.

Checking this will present a follow button to logged out users in the bottom corner of their screen.

We have a subscription shortcode which you can make use of. The help page on it is right here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/blog-subscription-shortcode/ You can also include the subscription shortcode at the end of every post you publish.

I do see several “pending” subscriptions to your site. At least one of those is caused by a mistyped e-mail address, so you might have people try to re-subscribe, making sure they use the right e-mail address.

For the rest, gmail likes to “help” by sorting e-mail into different folders. If you ask your users to search for “WordPress” in all of their email that might help them find the notice.

The last thing to remember is if followers sign up while they are logged into their WordPress.com account, or using an e-mail address connected to a WordPress.com account they will be automatically subscribed (without e-mail confirmation) and depending on their reader settings, they may not get e-mail updates from your site. Those followers can check on their reader settings here:

If you still have people unable to subscribe after checking those things, let me know and we can dig deeper.
