  The Gather.com Writing Essentials Group is looking for a new home. Gather.com has been a very popular site for eight years but has fallen on hard times. We have over 5,000 members with over 500 very active members.

  Our format was simple. An group editor posted a daily writing challenge and the members of the group published their responses.

  The Gather software had a number of features that made this process easy.

  1) Members posted to a Group where others could read their posts and they could read the posts of others.
  2) The writing challenges appeared at the top of a pane and the challenges scrolled below.
  3) Editors and members were notified when a challenge or a response was posted.

  Here are my questions:

  1) Is anyone else doing this on WordPress? If so, who? We would like to evaluate their format.
  2) If no one is currently doing this, can the staff give us a few tips on how this might be done.

  Hello there,

  This sounds terrific. I believe it is entirely possible to function as you’d like in WordPress.com.

  Your group editor will be able to publish the daily writing challenge via blog post. Any members who are subscribed to your WordPress.com blog will receive the notification of the new challenge. Any of your members who do not wish to subscribe via email or RSS feed can simply check in to your site on a daily basis to receive the new challenge.

  Your members can publish their responses via the Comments section of each blog post. You would be able to configure the settings of your site so that your moderator is notified of each new comment. Your comments can be public, so your entire community can read them.
