  How to change default interface so I am using the older interface with dashboard and information on the left with black background

  You cannot deactivate the new Beep Beep Boop editor but you do not have to use it. I don’t use it at all.   I have the solution. Log in. At top left select My Sites. On left select WP Admin. Then you are in the Classic interface and bypass the new default interface which has serious problems – e.g., you enter content and then leave without Publish and it is gone…
