The Journalist theme issues

  Just wanted to pass along that I made a request that the size of the avatar in the comments on this theme be enlarged. It was fixed at 16×16, which made it very small and unrecognizable and changing the size via CSS only stretched the pix, making it unreadable. Since avatar support was not a part of the original theme and had been added by WP, my request was honored. The avatar in comments is now 32×32.

  I wanted to share this as I have read in the forums many times that changes to themes here is unlikely. Perhaps this was a special circumstance but thanks to WP for making the change.

  I switched to another theme because I hated the font style and the tiny size of it in the sidebar. Remarkably, I have tried several times to switch back to The Journalist. The switch seems to take place but when you view the blog the background remains “black” in colour after the activate this theme link is clicked. The theme switch l;ooks as though it took place properly but when you view the blog the background does not change to “white” as it should. ARrrgggggggggghhhhhh!

  Hm – that sounds like a problem you need to send to support so that they can fix it.

  I tried changing to this theme again just now and it worked … weird.

  I see that the author has updated this theme – see here. One thing that he did was add the tagline. I am temporarily marking this thread unresolved in hopes that the support folks will see it and update the theme we have here.

  I’ll send support on Monday when they open back up.

  The designer of the Andreas themes and the designer of the Fauna theme have new versions that they would like wordpress.com to offer to bloggers here. However, there has been no indication from staff or management that their new versions will be utilized by wordpress.com.

  Unfortunately as other bloggers are using older versions of these themes there would likely be a hue and cry if the newer versions were brought online.

  As “The Journalist” has only been recently added perhaps the odds of having the new version ported will be better. So, good luck. :)

  One thing I just found tonight – if you close a post to comments, the prior comments do not show. I’ve sent feedback requesting that this be changed. (I’ve laboriously gone through and closed my oldest posts to cut down on spam.) The comments are there – they are just not displaying (I figured that out when I changed one of them back to allow comments.) It’s weird to see the post count and no comments.
