The 'like' Button
-
Hello,
Is something going on with wordpress? The ‘like’ button continuously says “loading” next to it, and I can’t click on it or see the ‘likes’ of people who have clicked ‘like’ on my posts. I can’t ‘like’ anyone else’s posts either. Yet, my blogger friends tell me they are not having this problem.
I tried signing in and signing out. I tried rebooting my computer, to no avail. I’m thinking something is happening with wordpress regarding my sign-in name, because I’m not having any other problems with my computer.
Any suggestions on how to get this to work again?
Thanks,

There is no WordPress.com issue I am aware of. It’s could be that your have an issue at your end of things though. Please try some troubleshooting to see if your can clear this up.
If you are not running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com/ please try upgrading or switching first.
Note: If you are using an IE9 browser in compatibility mode that makes it render as IE7 and IE7 is not supported. To disable see > http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1196-internet-explorer-compatibility-view-turn-off.html
If you are running one of the browsers and versions listed at http://browsehappy.com please do these four things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache:
http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=32050
2. Make sure that you have third-party cookies enabled: http://en.support.wordpress.com/third-party-cookies/
3. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
4. Try enabling HTTPS: http://en.support.wordpress.com/https/
If it’s still happening, let us know exactly which browser (and version of it) you’re using by checking here if necessary http://www.whatbrowser.org/ and also post any error reports you get.

Thank you for this info. I’m working on a fairly new laptop (couple months old) and it’s running IE10. So, it looks like I’ll need to do the four things you suggested. I’ll give that a shot when I get finished with some of my other work. If I have any other issues I’ll be back.
Thanks again. -

I’m having the same issue regarding the Like button. I use IE 9 with the compatibility view mode off. It is up-to-date on all security patches, security setting on Medium-High.

The troubleshooting did not change things, the Like button shows with “loading” next to the Like button. Also, the Like/Unlike button does not show up in the administrator bar at the top of the page.

Thanks for letting us know hiddenlens. Perhaps it’s not just me then. Maybe there are more of us struggling with this issue? Perhaps it can be reported to WordPress.com? How do we do that?

Please be sure you are running one of the browser versions which WordPress.com supports http://browsehappy.com

We’re testing some updates to the Likes button, but I’ve disabled them for now while we work on getting it fixed up in IE.
Thanks for the bug reports, everyone!

Yes, thank you timethief and pento. I’d click the ‘like’ button here for you if there were one. :-)
